Lemonade making activity

We conducted a new activity of making fresh-squeezed lemonade in the school for our pre primary kids and we would like to share ways that you can incorporate learning, into everyday activities that you do with your child.

Lemons can be used in a variety of activities for children. The kids will like using them because they are bright, colourful and fragrant. Start any activity by asking the children what lemons are used for and seeing the answers you get. Then squeeze a few lemons into a tumbler and make lemonade..For kids making fresh lemonade is almost as much drinking it. What, for adults, is tedious work--squeezing lemons--is fun for kids. And so lemonade has the potential to be an independent activity and a treat all at once. We showed them how to extract the juice from the lemons. Even though the children have seen lemons before, they’ve never been given a lemon just to explore at will. We also encourage the children to describe what they sees, smells, hears, tastes and feels throughout the whole process. The kids were very excited and actively involved in the activity. They pour water in the fresh squeezed lemon juice and add sugar and a little salt and after that enjoyed the yummy lemonade.
